    Position Description:

    This position involves constructing and repairing various building structures and frameworks. Carpenters work on tasks such as installing stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, cabinetry, siding, and drywall. They must have a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of wood and metal properties. In addition to their primary carpentry tasks, they are also responsible for performing support activities that are typically handled by laborers.

    Position Qualifications:

    Essential Duties:

    • Responsible for the assembly and removal of the forms that are used for concrete installation.

    • Use assorted hand tools, including ten-pound sledgehammers, shovels, picks, handsaws, skill saws, and drills.

    • Build and/or install window-frames, doors, doorframes, staircases, stairways, partitions, millwork, trim, siding, drywall, and overall building frames.

    • Responsible for ensuring that layout of flooring, roofing, and drywall are leveled and compatible.

    • Reads blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp project requirements.

    • Effectively operate small hand and power tools to assist with a variety of worksite projects.

    • Responsible for taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed. This includes cutting, shaping, and smoothing wood or other required materials according to requested measurements. This also includes constructing forms and chutes for pouring concrete as well as erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground.

    • Loads, unloads, and identifies building materials, machinery, and tools. Distributes site materials to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. Responsible for ensuring that all materials are properly distributed, and the site is swept and well maintained.

    • Promotes a safe work environment and communicates jobsite hazards. This includes helping to secure the jobsite at the end of business each day and verifying that all site materials are properly stored.

    Laborers have a general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled crafts working on the project. Laborers provide support for the form carpenters and for the concrete operation in general. 

    Position Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED.

    • Experience with a wide variety of construction machinery.

    • Knowledge of maintenance of various construction equipment.

    • Must be able to take initiative and ask questions.

    Essential Duties:

    • Preparation of areas for the placement of concrete involves final excavation of dirt and rock and fine grading for floor slabs. This work involves shoveling for extended periods of time.

    • Assembly of concrete forms, laborers are required to lift form prefabricated metal form panels and assist in their placement.

    • Handle the concrete bucket suspended from a crane that transfers the concrete from the concrete truck to the placement area. After the concrete is poured from the bucket, laborers muck the concrete in slabs to spread it evenly.

    • After the concrete has cured, the laborers assist in stripping the concrete forms and transporting them for storage.

    • Assist concrete finishers in moving power trowels and power screeds used to finish the concrete surface.

    • Assist carpenters in handling and setting door frames. This entails transporting the door frames from the storage area to the work areas and stacking the door frames where needed.

    • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools. Distribute site materials to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. Responsible for ensuring that all materials are properly distributed, and the site is swept and well maintained.

    The Foreman is key to ensuring the smooth operation of construction sites. They serve as the main link between construction workers and supervisors, leading their team and handling various aspects of site management. This role involves overseeing safety, coordinating daily tasks, creating schedules, ensuring quality, and managing the budget. The Foreman also reports project progress to the superintendent and is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.

    Position Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three years commercial construction experience or trades-specific leadership.

    • Valid Driver’s License required.

    • Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program. 

    • Must be able to take initiative and ask questions.

    • Possess a keen attention to detail and be able to follow instructions.

    • Workers must provide their own safety footwear.

    Union cement finishers are responsible for placement and surface preparation of concrete in conformance with the project requirements.

    Position Qualifications:

    Essential Duties:

    • Positioning themselves on the concrete forms and moving the pump hose or concrete bucket into place for the pouring of the concrete.

    • Levelling the top surface of freshly poured concrete on floors, walls, ceilings or sidewalks. Responsible for finishing the concrete surface to meet the tolerances for thickness and flatness before the concrete has cured. Initially, the concrete finisher must strike the concrete with a screed to create a level, smooth surface.

    • Applying a bull float to the concrete to further smooth the surface and bring the moisture to the top of the concrete area. The float is operated by a concrete finisher applying pressure to the float as it is moved back and forth over the concrete.

    • Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete. This includes waterproofing, damp-proofing, and restoring concrete surfaces.

    • Installing anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.

    • Operating a trowel to finish the surface when the concrete has reached a semi-cured status.
